Frequently Asked Questions

  • How early can my child arrive to school?

    Posted by:

Students are asked not to arrive before 7:15 a.m., as adult supervision is not available before that time.  A warning bell will ring at 7:35 a.m. All students are expected to be in class by the 7:45 a.m. bell.  Supervision of students occurs: When students are on the school bus, attending school, or are participating (with authorization) in a school-sponsored activity.  Supervision also occurs 30 minutes before and after student required attendance at school or before and after the beginning and ending times of a school sponsored activity in which students are authorized to participate.  There is no school board supervision of students except during these times.

  • What do I do when my child is absent?

    Posted by:

Parents are responsible for reporting absences and providing the reason for the absence in writing when the child returns to school. Full-day and partial-day absences can be excused for a number of reasons, including illness, appointments with health care professionals, religious holidays, school sponsored activities, death in the family, and court appearances.  Please send in a note when your child is absent.  Parents can excuse up to 6 absences per semester without a doctor's note.  Doctors are able to excuse an unlimited amount of absences.

Mornings are busy times for our teachers as they are preparing for the school day, so please email or call your child’s teacher to arrange a convenient time to meet with her/him. Remember to include your phone number in the email. In the event that you do not have email access, the front office staff will be happy to take a message from you and send it to the teacher. As stated in the Parent/Student Handbook, birthday parties are not allowed at school, however, cupcakes or cookies may be provided for the class snack. Please email or call your child’s teacher, in advance, to let her/him know you are bringing in a treat. Unless other arrangements are made with the teacher, you may bring in the treat and leave it in the front office. We will email the teacher and she/he will come get it at her/his convenience.

  • I want to visit my child’s classroom. Do I need to check in the front office first?

    Posted by:

Unexpected visitors can be disruptive to the learning environment, therefore we ask that you refrain from visiting the classroom unless you have made arrangements with the teacher. If arrangements are made, you will check in the front office for a visitor pass before proceeding to the classroom.
