Policies and Procedures
The Chiles Media Center functions on a fixed/flexible schedule.
- Kindergarten classes visit weekly for story and library lessons. Kindergarten students check out books and keep them in their classroom.
- Grades 1 through 5 may visit weekly with their class or students may come to the library as needed for checkout and research. Five students at a time may come in a group. Students in grades 1 and 2 may check out two books. Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 may check out three books. Checkout is for two weeks and books may be renewed for additional weeks.
- Students with overdue books will not be permitted to check out additional books. If a book is lost we would appreciate the cost of the book, which will then be used to order a new one.
- Information skill classes are scheduled with individual teachers, who then collaborate with the media specialist to provide lessons covering the Information grade level objectives
Parents are encouraged to visit the Media Center and check out books. Parents may request a library card that will enable them to check out 5 books. The media aide Mrs. Malby is available to assist parents when needed. Parents may come to the Media Center to learn more about any programs offered. Students who come before or after school need a teacher permission slip or a parent accompanying them to come to the Media Center.
