College Bound Students Entrance Exams (SAT/PSAT/ACT)

The school guidance counselor is a key contact for college-bound students. Information on courses, testing time-lines, application procedures, admission requirements, scholarships and other topics are available in the school’s guidance office.
SAT - The SAT is a test of reasoning based on the student’s knowledge and skills. It is used for a variety of purposes, including college admissions and eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Program. An SAT score can also be used to replace the student’s score on the Florida Standards Assessment 10th grade English Language Arts and/or the Algebra 1 end-of-course exam, which students must pass in order to graduate.
The SAT is offered several times throughout the year. Information about registering for the SAT is available from the school guidance counselor or on the College Board website at www.collegeboard.org.
PSAT - The PSAT is designed for sophomores and juniors and is used to help students prepare for the SAT and to determine their eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Alachua County Public Schools also uses the data to identify those students who may be appropriate for placement in more rigorous coursework, such as Advanced Placement.
ACT - The ACT is a college admissions test that measures achievement in four areas—English, math, reading and science. The results of the ACT may also be used to replace the student’s score on the Florida Standards Assessment 10th grade English Language Arts and/or the Algebra 1 end- of-course exam, which students must pass in order to graduate.
