What is Pre-Kindergarten?
Alachua County Public Schools offers four distinct options for Early Childhood Education. We have posted some brief descriptions, brochures and links to their official sites to help you decide which program is right for you and your child.
Programs qualifications vary. Available programs are:
- ACCEPT- ACCEPT is a voluntary educational program that is designed to fit the immediate needs of students who are pregnant (and/or a parent). ACCEPT helps a student continue or complete high school or middle school requirements while learning the many skills needed to become a better parent and responsible adult.
- ESE Pre-K- provides services for Prekindergarten children with special needs ages 3-5. Children must be 3 years of age and have been evaluated to be eligible to enter the Prekindergarten Program.
- Head Start- Head Start is a federally funded school readiness and parent and community engagement program that provides comprehensive developmental services to income eligible preschool children ages 3-5.
- Voluntary Pre-K- VPK is a program to prepare every Florida four-year-old for kindergarten and build a strong foundation for their continued educational success.
