    Norton History

Our school greeted the first “knights” in August 1992.The school was named after Cornelius W. Norton who was an active member of the community, recipient of many awards and worked with numerous school systems in Florida for over forty years.

Mr. Norton earned a Bachelor’s degree from Bethune-Cookman College and a Master’s degree from Columbia University. He continued his education studies at Florida A & M University and at the University of Florida.

He began teaching in Suwanee County and later became a principal. After coming to Alachua County, Mr. Norton was a principal at several schools. These include Archer Community School, Duval Elementary, Lincoln High School, Williams Elementary, Sidney Lanier Elementary, and at Kirby-Smith Elementary.

We are very honored to be named after a person who gave so much to educating our youth.
