What is Title I?

Title I is the major component of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and the largest Federal assistance program for our nation’s schools. School districts receive federal funding to provide supplemental instruction for students in academic need. The goal is to increase performance and academic achievement in the areas of ELA and/or mathematics.

Schools are identified as Title I based on the economic level of families who attend. The number of students receiving free and reduced lunch qualifies a school to receive Title I funding.

Terwilliger Title I

• Terwilliger qualifies for school-wide Title I status
• Funding is used to benefit ALL students in the school.
• Terwilliger uses Title I funds to hire additional staff, purchase technology and academic resources, host parent meetings and events, provide after-school tutoring, and provide collaborative planning and professional development for teachers.

Eligibility Requirements

Various factors are used to determine student eligibility, including but not limited to F.A.S.T tests, classroom-based assessments and performance, and teacher recommendations.

How Can Parents Get Involved in Their Child's Education?

Your involvement is a vital part of your child's education. Here are a few ways you can take an active role in your child's education:

• Read with your child for at least 20 minutes every day.
• Support homework and study habits in a positive way
• Attend events at school (open house, parent involvement activities, PTA meetings)
• Communicate with your child's teacher regularly
