• Lincoln Chess Club 2018- 2019

    Chess is a powerful tool to help kids to enhance their mental skills and to socialize in a healthy and creative environment. The main goals at the Chess club at Lincoln Middle School are to help beginners to learn the fundamentals of the game and to provide seasoned players with a structure environment to prepare to compete at the State and National level.

    The Lead Instructor at the chess club is Miguel Ararat MS., MPharm a Biological Scientist with a proven track record of success helping Gainesville kids to become National and State of Florida Chess Champions. Miguel holds National Chess Coach Advance Level IV certification by the United States Chess Federation and a FIDE Instructor license issued by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). In addition to chess Miguel also coach at the University of Florida Men’s Volleyball club and runs Gainesville Chess Training, a program that focus on helping kids and adults of any age to learn, enjoy and compete at chess.

    The Lincoln Chess Club will have its first meeting Friday, September 14th and will continue to meet each in session until Spring Break. Christmas break Dec 7th to Jan 10 2019.

    No Chess Club the following dates:

    Friday October 19, November 2, November 23, January 4th, January 18th, March 22

    Christmas Break

    December 14 (Nationals in Orlando), club resumes in Jan 11th 2019

    The club will start immediately after school at 3:30 PM until 4:45 PM

    The club is open to all chess playing students and interested beginners. The club offers lessons for beginners, as well as tips and puzzles designed to help advance students to improve/mantain their skills and be ready to compete at the Florida and United States Scholastic chess championships. A club tournament and an awards party will be held at the end of each semester.

    The fee for the Lincoln Chess Club is $150 per year. Please make checks payable to: Alachua Scholastic Chess Association (ASCA) with a memo: Lincoln Chess Club

    A permission slip must be returned for each child to attend.

    CHESS CLUB RULES -- Please make sure your child understands these rules and is truly interested in playing chess.

    Children are expected to go immediately to chess club at 3:30 PM and check-in with the Instructor.

    1. During chess club children must exhibit an interest in learning chess and improving their game.
    2. Every child will remain in chess club until (unless he or she is signed-out by a parent or designated adult)
    3. All children must be picked up promptly at 4:45 PM. Any late pick-up may result in a late fee of $10.00 for every 15 minutes after the designated pick up time.
    4. Inappropriate behavior, including foul or disrespectful language, may result in dismissal from the club.
