The Academy of Health Professions is a Career Academy Magnet program located on the campus of Gainesville High School. The focus of the AHP program is to provide experience for students interested in pursuing technical training in health careers.

9th grade course:Medical Skills and ServicesThe purpose of this course is to assist students in making informed decisions about their future academic and occupational goals and to provide information regarding careers and skills in the Health Science career cluster. The content of this course includes, but is not limited to: employability and communication skills, legal and technological aspects of healthcare, medical mathematics, services provided by health science professions, mental health and wellness, occupational safety, and basic health science skills.10th grade course:Health Science Anatomy and PhysiologyThis course consists of the study of the human body, both structurally and functionally with an emphasis on pathophysiology (common diseases) and disease transmission. Medical terminology is an integral part of the course.11th grade course:Health Science FoundationsThis course provides students with an in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system and associated occupations. Emphasis is placed on communication and interpersonal skills, use of technology, ethics and the development of critical thinking and problem solving. Students will also learn first aid skills and demonstrate the measurement of vital signs.12th grade course:Clinical experienceWe offer a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) course, EKG technician course and an Allied Health course. CNA and EKG students are eligible to apply and take the national exams for their field to become certified. All senior students will participate in a clinical internship related to their course of study.
