Selective Service System
-
Selective Service registration is required by law as the first part of a fair and equitable system that, if authorized by the President and Congress, would rapidly provide personnel to the Department of Defense while at the same time providing for an Alternative Service Program for conscientious objectors. By registering, a young man remains eligible for jobs, state-based student aid in 31 states, Federally-funded job training, and US citizenship for immigrant men.
While there is currently no draft, registration with the Selective Service System is the most publicly visible program during peacetime that ensures operational readiness in a fair and equitable manner. If authorized by the President and Congress, our Agency would rapidly provide personnel to the Department of Defense while at the same time providing an Alternative Service Program for conscientious objectors.
Federal Law requires nearly all male US citizens and male immigrants, age 18 through 25, register with Selective Service. For more information, visit Selective Service System.

ASVAB Testing
-
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple-aptitude battery that measures developed abilities and helps predict future academic and occupational success in the military. It is administered annually to more than one million military applicants, high school, and post-secondary students. The ASVAB is administered on the NHS campus during the school day each year (typically in November) to any student in 10th through 12th grade. This is an informative aptitude test used to determine qualification for enlistment in the military. When the test date is announced, make sure to stop by the NHS Guidance Office to sign up if you are interested in taking the ASVAB. Remember, this test is only given once a year so don’t miss your chance to take it!
The ASVAB subtests are designed to measure aptitudes in four domains: Verbal, Math, Science and Technical, and Spatial. For more information about the ASVAB, visit https://www.officialasvab.com/.
