District Advisory Council (DAC)

  • As part of the strategic planning process, the School Board of Alachua County established the District Advisory Council (DAC) as a vehicle to provide stakeholder/community input on key issues of districtwide significance. The DAC will consider issues referred to it by the Superintendent, the School Board, and/or DAC voting membership and make recommendations to be shared with the Superintendent and the School Board.

The twenty-two ‘school block’ members of the District Advisory Council (DAC) are drawn from local School Advisory Councils or PTA Boards, with the SAC chair as the first selection. Each School Board Member also appoints one community member each to serve as a board representative on the District Advisory Council.

During the Fall 2021 semester, the Superintendent sought insight from the DAC on their experience engaging with the District.  Based on the feedback of DAC members, the Superintendent proposed amendments to the committee bylaws, including the election of co-chairs from the DAC to develop meeting agendas and lead the meetings.

The DAC voted unanimously to amend the DAC Bylaws, and the changes were approved by the School Board in February 2022. With an updated committee structure, the DAC is positioned to improve communication, increase engagement, and foster more meaningful input from the community.
