Head Lice
-
Head lice are transmitted from one person’s hair to another’s, either through direct contact or through sharing combs, brushes, hats, furniture, etc.
If a student is suspected to have head lice, the school nurse will contact the parent/guardian to obtain verbal consent before checking their hair. A student who has live head lice should be excluded from school until all live lice are removed. Students with only nits may remain in school, but the parent/guardian should continue daily lice/nit checks and comb through hair to remove nits until completely clear.
The school nurse and principal reserve the right to temporarily exclude a student if no improvement is evident. If such an exclusion occurs, further education and referral will be provided to the parent/guardian.
